Application Questions
Who is the most important person in their life and why? What might be different if this person hadn't been around?
Although Guillermo's time as Nandor's familiar accounts for about 2% of Nandor's existence, Guillermo is one of the few people who have made lasting impacts on Nandor. It is demonstrated that Nandor has never cared for a familiar the way he cares for Guillermo and despite his callous treatment of the other man, he is perceived to be treating him softly and kindly by other vampires.
Guillermo constantly makes Nandor reconsider his own conduct and what is expected of him. Nandor is lenient when Guillermo is "disobedient". Such as, when Nandor finds he is a vampire slayer, when he kills the Baron and when he becomes a vampire without his knowledge.
Nandor trusts Guillermo deeply with his secrets and his safety, certainly more than the friends he's had for hundreds of years. He ends the series by seeing Guillermo as his equal and treating him as such, a big deal for a narcissistic vampire. Guillermo's guidance and protection has saved him on many occasions and eventually he comes to realise this, but his companionship seems to be the most important thing to Nandor.
Guillermo sort of tethers Nandor to reality and brings out his better attributes such as his protectiveness, the warmth he has and his humor. Guillermo is also gentle and clever in his approach to Nandor, meaning he understands how to get his point across to him without Nandor disregarding it. Without Guillermo, he continues life as it had been the previous 750ish years.
Is there an event in your character's life that they'd do differently? How so and why?
Nandor has lived a long time, so he has accrued many regrets. He regrets eating his horse, John. He regrets using a Djinn to ressurect his dead wife and he regrets marrying her again and he regrets turning his dead wife into a clone of Guillermo's boyfriend. Nandor is impulsive, jealous and cruel but also seems to have a softer side that regrets when he lashes out.
More than likely, Nandor's greatest regret is becoming a vampire at all. Nandor suffers greatly from depression and loneliness, all of which is a result of living forever and being a dark creature of the night.
It is stated that when he turned, all of his wives and children left him. He desperately wishes he did not lose the love of his children and makes an attempt to reconnect with a descendant that is disastrous because he's lowkey a monster.
He has had a great deal of incredible experiences and bonds, but goes through multi-hundred year dry spells, struggles with dating and becomes embroiled in a cult as a direct result of disenchantment and depression.
What's the greatest challenge you foresee your character facing in the setting?
Nandor will struggle greatly with not having things his way. Although at some point he was a soldier and lived rough, he lives a very privileged little life. He barely hunts as his familiar brings him food, he has no real job, he doesn't even brush his own hair.
He isn't lazy in the way Laszlo is, Nandor always seeks greater purpose. He is privileged and lives for his comforts, whining when he is deprived of them.
He is also not hugely adventurous, it takes a long time for him to consider travel and returns home pretty promptly with his little jan sport backpack. This is because he is also extremely co-dependent upon Guillermo, Laszlo, Nadja and maybe Colin sometimes. If separated at any point, it is likely he will be listless and unmoored.
What's the easiest thing you foresee your character adapting to in the setting?
Nandor is from a light-hearted comedy world, but it's still very much a horror. Gruesome murder, monsters, hauntings, tiresome admin, thrilling sex and death are commonplace. Nandor is not easily perturbed, partly because he's ignorant but mostly because he's seen it all before. It is unlikely he will lose any bearings because he doesn't really have any left.
Nandor is also a soldier and former war-general. When pushed, he can competently fight, use weapons and tools, set traps and survive. He will also be inspired by the likelihood of making positive connections with others, something he craves but struggles to maintain in his own world. With something like that to fight for, he will likely be inspired to protect and defend and find purpose in this hell hole.

Physical Affection: Nandor craves affection but he's really unfamiliar with it and is unlikely to initiate things like hugs or kisses and it really depends on the CR whether he'd reciprocate, freeze or lash out.
Physical Violence: Nandor is prone to violent outbursts and would not feel bad about killing someone. I'm definitely interested in fights, murder etc but will need to plot carefully because he holds grudges.
Relationships: Nandor is absolutely woeful at maintaining romantic relationships but he does crave them deeply and becomes infatuated with people easily. Very eager to play this out.
NPC Interaction: I'm definitely interested in NPC interactions
Psychic & Psionic Information: Vampires in Nandor's canon possess a form of mind control through eye-contact and verbal commands. They can compel their victims to follow orders or erase their memories. Nandor's ability for hypnosis has been stated to be greater than the average vampire.
Magical Information: Nandor is a vampire, the full list of his powers can be found on his info page.
Medical Information: Nandor has weaknesses typical of a vampire including garlic, silver, wooden stakes in the heart (not fun for anyone), salt and religious imagery/phrases. He is undead and can only be killed as per his info page. He cannot consume human food and drink and must drink blood to survive.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers Associated with This Character: Violence, gore, murder etc are all associated with Nandor. Emetophobia may also come up if Nandor accidentally consumes human food.

Judging from the view of Earth and a satellite in the background, Nandor reached roughly 200km. Since upon re-entry he started to burn up in the mesosphere.

Option 2: You may instead choose words from the following list to expand upon as your personality section. Elaborate on what this word means to your character, specifically their thoughts about it. For Canon Characters, you can choose five words. For Original Characters, you will need to choose seven words. Keep the word count to 100-300 per choice.
- Dead
- Friendly
- Pride
- Sin
- Child
As a member of the Undead, Nandor has both experienced death and can never die. As a vampire, Nandor is immortal and has a complicated relationship with mortality generally. His very existence requires death because he needs to feed on human blood and prior to his turning, he was a violent warlord who slaughtered many, many people. Nandor came into vampirism with a lot of murdering experience under his belt, but he seems to have become increasingly nonchalant about it.
Nandor also views his immortality as a curse which has made him terribly lonely and bored because there is very little he can experience that he hasn't already done a hundred times or that is not limited by his vampirism. He also has very little to show for his long life and has accomplished very little since being turned.
In short, the word "dead" to Nandor both means everything to him (because it's technically what he is) and very little (because he rarely experiences the consequences of death).
Friendliness is complicated for vampires, who are generally elitist and insular and seem to become callous as they advance in age and experience. Nandor doesn't appear to have many close friendships and the ones we see most often seem strained or cold. Nandor has lived with Nadja, Laszlo and Colin for many, many years and most often they seem to barely tolerate one another but have developed a deep codependence with one another.
Nandor is able to express friendliness more openly and warmly than his housemates, but isn't able to maintain it long and it is often conditional. Nandor expresses care and concern, but he's usually got the right intentions and the wrong idea. He's also pretty rude even when he's trying to be kind, prone to backhanded insults, making assumptions and speaking for others.
Nandor's mannerisms are also deceptively friendly, he often speaks quite sweetly, he smiles a lot and he's got a charming earnestness about him. If you spoke to him with his volume on mute, you'd probably get an inaccurate impression of him.
Because he is somewhat delusional, Nandor would likely associate the word "friendly" with his own personality.
Pride plays a huge part in the depression Nandor experiences throughout the series. He has become complacent in his eternal life and seems to fondly reminisce upon his life as a human more than the others. He took great pride in his rank in society and as a general of his own army and lived a lavish life as a result of it, with much finery and many, many wives.
Nandor still holds onto his pride firmly. It makes it difficult for him to express vulnerability but he's often so miserable he can't help it.
Pride also destroys the few relationships he has. Nandor often pushes his familiar, Guillermo away when he feels snubbed by him and he struggles to be okay with him having independence away from him. He also strongly contemplated killing Guillermo when he allowed himself to be turned by another vampire, which was a grave insult.
Interestingly, pride is something damaging to Nandor but often is another thing he struggles to follow through with. For example, he doesn't kill Guillermo for insulting him. It could be said this is out of fondness or softness or simply it is because Nandor's pride is not as important to him as Guillermo's attention is.
Still, Nandor would still strongly associate the word "pride" with himself.
Vampires are in many ways an embodiment of sin and they have great disdain for religion. It's not just because they're murderous and bloodthirsty (which can be seen as an insatiable gluttony), which they are. They are also indulgent creatures and have a particular fondness for carnal desires.
Lust and sex seems to be one of the true pleasures a vampire can experience, and Nandor has experienced a decent amount of it. It becomes clear over the course of the series that Nandor absolutely has sex with Laszlo, a housemate who is married to Nadja (another housemate) and watches them have sex from time to time.
Nandor has also stated that he has had "dry spells" lasting for up to 200 years and seems to waver on whether he craves a committed relationship, intimacy or the convenience of having a wife as he struggles through immortality.
As above, vampires generally and Nandor specifically are insular and proud and they look down on humans and other creatures as inferior or troublesome. Nandor's pride and ego coupled with his childishness have made him a cruel and manipulative person as he always wants to "win".
Being a member of the undead and undying is often thought of as an affront to "god" and the afterlife, making Nandor's existence sinful.
The word "sin" for Nandor likely makes him feel disgust about religion. He does not feel guilt for what he is or what his desires are, he only feels sorry for himself.
In Nandor's life as a human he had 37 wives, some of them were men but many were women. As a result, he had many children but was not a particularly active father. When he was turned, his wives left with their children both out of fear and because they were fed up with him. Nandor made attempts to see his children and send them gifts but they were frightened of him. Eventually, he was driven away from his homeland and he lost all contact.
Nandor feels a great deal of sadness and remorse for this. This is partly because he is lonely but a lot because he feels he has no legacy. His familiar, Guillermo, comforts him by having his DNA tested and finding that he has 200,000 direct descendants. In a sad twist of fate, Nandor insists upon visiting one living nearby and scares her to death.
This is one of the few times in the series that Nandor experiences true grief and he forces himself to attend her funeral despite the pain he feels being in a church.
As such, the word "child" still conjures up feelings of loss and sadness for Nandor but he also has very little interest in real children.

Background.
Nandor was born in 1262 in Al Qolnidar, in what is now southern Iran. He rose to power as the nation's Supreme Viceroy in 1279. Nandor became a general of the Ottoman Empire, presumably some time after its founding in 1299. During this time he pillaged many villages without discrimination.
Nandor was married to 37 men and women at once and loved 35 of them.
It was during this time that he became a vampire. He gained the unique abilities of pyrokinesis and being able to turn into vapor.
All of his wives became sick of his moodiness, sleeping during the day and blood-drinking and left, taking his children with them. Nandor was eventually driven out of Al Qolnidar by peasants.
He moved into a house with fellow vampires Nadja, Laszlo Cravensworth and Colin Robinson in Staten Island, New York. Nandor applied for American citizenship in 1992, motivated to do so out of idolization for his five favourite basketball players: Johnson, Jordan, Bird, Barkley and Ewing, the starting line-up for the US Olympic menβs basketball team. He did not however complete the application process because he got distracted by the Macarena
Around 2009 he adopted a new human familiar, Guillermo. In 2019, a documentary crew began filming Nandor, Guillermo and his housemates.
Personality.
Nandor has an inflated sense of self and is arrogant and pompous. He is extremely fussy and demanding and likes ceremony and tradition as well as routine. Nandor is bossy and displays leader-like qualities.
In contrast to this side of personality, Nandor is also incredibly childish. He is excitable and eager but is stubborn and struggles to learn from mistakes. Nandor is lonely and attention seeking, he's particularly interested in forming romantic bonds but struggles to maintain them. Nandor can be very sweet, but he's prone to being dismissive and often makes assumptions rather than listening.
Vampires generally are known to be stubborn and set in their ways, Nandor is no exception to this and struggles greatly with change. Although he struggles to adapt to technology and fashion, he seems to greatly enjoy elements of modern life and pop culture such as gyms, music, basketball and The Big Bang Theory.
